First Savers Thrift Store in Glenview Partners with Friends of Epilepsy Foundation Greater Chicago to Benefit Community
Savers, a national thrift chain superstore, is celebrating the opening of its new Glenview store on Thursday, September 19 at 8:45 a.m.

Savers, the national thrift chain with more than 330 locations across North America, is celebrating the opening of its 11th store in the greater Chicago area and a continued partnership with the Friends of Epilepsy Foundation Greater Chicago. The celebration of the Glenview area location will kick off on Thursday, September 18 with an 8:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Savers management and representatives from the Friends of Epilepsy Foundation Greater Chicago, and continue through Saturday, September 20. Grand opening festivities of this new thrift store will include the chance for attendees to win one of five $100 Savers gift certificates.
Savers was founded on the core principle of supporting local communities – and has embraced that value by partnering with local nonprofits since 1954. The Glenview store’s partnership with the Friends of Epilepsy Foundation Greater Chicago means that every single donation made at the store’s Community Donation Center or to the Epilepsy Foundation benefits the organization. Not only does this partnership support their vital mission to lead the fight to stop seizures, find a cure and overcome challenges created by epilepsy, but it also help to support important programs like the Studio E: The Epilepsy Art Therapy Program. Studio E is an art therapy program open to people with epilepsy where participants are given the opportunity to creatively express themselves and their emotions. As part of the partnership, children’s artwork from a recent Studio E: The Epilepsy Art Therapy Project session will be installed and showcased in the new Glenview store.
“We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with Savers, particularly with such a special art installation in the store,” said Kurt Florian, president of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago. “Through our partnership with Savers anyone can support and help fund our important work in Chicago, including training and educational programs for schools, the Studio E Art Therapy program, and our weeklong summer camp experience at Camp Blackhawk for children and teens with epilepsy.”

Not only does Savers offer an easy way for customers to help the local community, but the store makes it easy to shop for quality goods, too. With wide aisles and clean and tidy racks with merchandise organized by department, style and size, Savers is no ordinary thrift store – it’s a place where people from all backgrounds can enjoy a unique selection, good deals and fun treasures in a department store-like atmosphere. The store carries more than 100,000 unique items on the sales floor at any time and stocks thousands of gently used items every day, ensuring customers continuously find a refreshed assortment of quality, value goods.
“We’re very excited to open our first store in Glenview,” said Christina Anderson, the new store manager. “The support we’re able to provide the local Chicago community makes us proud, and we can’t wait to welcome both new and familiar customers and introduce them to all our great deals offered throughout the store.”

While the new Glenview store offers strong support for the local community, the network of Savers stores across North America encourages a more sustainable environment overall. By coupling the sale of gently used, quality items with the responsible recycling of items that cannot be sold, Savers, its customers, and its nonprofit partners keep more than 650 million pounds of reusable goods from ending up in landfills each year. Since its founding, Savers has continued to inspire local communities to reduce their waste by reusing and recycling unneeded items, and has showcased that shopping thrift truly is one of the easiest ways to “go green.”
The Glenview store and Community Donation Center, located at 9840 Milwaukee Avenue, will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, customers may contact the store directly at (847) 635-6288 or visit www.savers.com.
