Focus On The Positive with ADHD
Dr. Clatch writes about focusing on positive behaviors when your child struggles with impulse control and other symptoms of ADHD.

Parents dealing with an impulsive child may become so vigilant about impulsive behavior that they forget to recognize when their child is able to control their behavior. These events may be few and far between in the early stages of controlling behavior that they may be overlooked. However, parents that are alert to their child’s positive behavior will be able to provide their child with praise and rewards for controlling their behavior. Rewards can be as simple as extra time playing video games or additional computer privileges. The important thing for parents to remember is to be open to the possibilities of positive behavior and to recognize and reinforce this behavior so that their child can feel good about themselves.
