Freight Train Strikes Car in Downtown Glenview early Saturday - 3 crossings shutdown

GLENVIEW, Ill. — A Wisconsin and Southern freight train collided with a truck in downtown Glenview early Saturday morning, resulting in the driver being transported to the hospital and significant train crossing blockages.

The incident occurred shortly before 6:00 a.m. on Glenview Road. In response, the Glenview Police Department closed the train crossings at both Glenview Road and Harlem Avenue to manage traffic and the emergency response. The train itself was blocking the crossing at Dewes Street and Chestnut Avenue for an extended period.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to Glenbrook Hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries is currently unknown. The damaged car was cleared from the scene and towed away by approximately 7:30 a.m.
During the blockage, a potentially dangerous situation was observed as three cyclists were seen climbing between two freight cars to illegally cross the tracks at the Chestnut Avenue intersection. Authorities consistently warn that this is an extremely hazardous act.
