Will head coach Mike Noll and the Glenbrook South football team finally beat Maine South, their conference rivals in the Central Suburban League South?

Noll is 0-8 against Maine South since taking over the program in 2004. In two of the last three years, Glenbrook South's season ended at the hands of the Hawks from Park Ridge.

But Noll is not thinking of the past. "Every season is a new season," he said. "It's a process when you coach a team."

Gone is quarterback Mike Pullano who put up a staggering 25 touchdowns (and just one interception) last year. Replacing Pullano is senior Matt Jenkins, who attempted zero passes up until this season. Gone is running back Mike Hirsch, who took his talents to Harvard University following a 1,617-yard and 25-touchdown senior season. Replacing him is Kyle Kwasniewski, who rushed for 671 yards and 10 touchdowns last year.

For the first time since taking over at Glenbrook South, Noll lost the season opener as the Titans fell to the Indians of Minooka High School 42-14. The Indians gained 441 yards rushing in the victory. Noll said after the game that depth was a huge concern for the Titans as they dressed just 35 players for the game.

Glenbrook South also fell in its home opener in blowout fashion, losing to Stevenson 42-20. Run defense proved to be the problem for the second straight game as the Titans allowed 362 rushing yards.

The date to circle on your calendar is Oct. 15, when Maine South comes to Glenbrook South's field.

The Hawks are the back-to-back defending Class 8A champions and won 29 consecutive games, including 24 straight regular season games coming into the season. They were ranked second in the Sun Times and Chicago Tribune preseason football rankings. However, they are coming off a 29-17 loss to Schaumburg in their Aug. 27 season opener and a blowout 44-7 loss at Wheaton Warrenville-South on Sept. 3.
