Gelfand Color Run Returns To Glenview Sunday

GLENVIEW, IL — A splash of color is coming to Glenview this weekend.

The Gelfand Color Run returns Sunday, Sept. 13, at Richard E. Johns Park, 2101 Central Road, with participants invited to run, walk or dance their way through a 1-mile course while getting covered in colored powder.

Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, with a guided warm-up and the run starting at 9 a.m. Post-race festivities are scheduled to continue until about 10:30 a.m.

The event is open to participants of all ages and abilities. Organizers said the course will include five color stations, with different colors thrown throughout the route.

The color is described by organizers as biodegradable, non-toxic, and food-grade.

Proceeds from the event benefit The Debra Gelfand Children's Foundation, which provides shoes, clothing, transportation, rental and utility assistance, medical bill assistance and other support to District 34 families.

The 1-mile route is untimed and will take place on paved pathways and grass terrain at Johns Park.

Organizers recommend participants wear an old white T-shirt to show off the colors. They also suggest bringing a towel for the ride home.

Bicycles, in-line skates, strollers and other wheeled vehicles are not allowed on the course, though accommodations can be arranged in advance for participants who need them.

Free parking will be available at Johns Park and Hoffman Elementary School.

The event will be held rain or shine, although organizers said it will be canceled if more threatening weather is in the forecast. Registration is nonrefundable.
