Glenview Chamber Helping Food-Insecure Residents With Drive

The effort by the Young Professionals Group will benefit the Northfield Township Food Pantry.

GLENVIEW, IL — The shelves at the Northfield Township Food Pantry are becoming increasingly bare and the Glenview Chamber of Commerce wants to do something about it. In August and September, the organization's Young Professionals Group will be holding a food drive to benefit the pantry.

"We are so grateful to the Glenview Chamber of Commerce's Young Professionals Group for making a difference in the lives of so many who are food insecure in our community," said Shiva Mohsenzadeh, Northfield Township Supervisor, in a news release.

The pantry, located at 2550 Waukegan Road in Glenview, serves more than 1,000 local families in Glenview, Northbrook and Northfield. Organizers say residents looking to contribute to the Summer Food Drive can do so by donating food at a number of local businesses, public institutions and the library. A full list of participating businesses can be found here.

The Chamber is asking participating businesses to each collect five brown grocery bags with items like cereal, pasta, canned veggies and fruits and drop off at the pantry during business hours or in the collections boxes outside the building during non-business hours, according to the news release.

"There are few things easier than sharing food with those in need. Filling our food pantry is a year round need that gets a lot of focus during the holiday season, but less necessary press in the off season," said April Doremus, of Blended Health & Smoothie Bar. "As a community, and a group of dedicated individuals & business owners, the Young Professionals Group of the Glenview Chamber looks to get our entire community involved with taking care of our own. With all the curveballs that life can throw as us, figuring out our next meal should never be an added stress."
