In the ultimate act of service at the beginning of the coldest season, Dr. Simon Lee, Glenview resident and foot and ankle surgeon at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, gave free foot exams and distributed shoes and socks to homeless men and women in Chicago.
Joined by other physicians, medical students and fellows of Rush University Medical Center, Dr. Lee tended to the feet of individuals a the Franciscan House of Mary and Joseph shelter on the city’s west side. The “Our Hearts to Your Soles” program served more than 140 individuals this year.
Dr. Lee began the Chicago chapter of the Chicago program in 2007, and since then, has been actively involved in coordinating this annual event. In addition to the medical screenings, the men and women of the shelter received free shoes donated by Red Wing Shoe Company and socks from Dignity U Wear. This year, Dr. Lee was presented with the Community Leadership Award by the Chicago Health Executives Forum for his work with “Our Hearts to Your Soles.”
