A Glenview man has saved the life of a Roman Catholic priest in Singapore by donating stem cells.

Peter Mui was “all in for saving the man’s life,” the Chicago Tribune reports before he donated the stem cells from his blood to the Rev. Luke Fong of the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Singapore in July 2013. One year prior, Fong had been diagnosed with biphenotypic leukemia, a cancer whose cure often requires a transplant of stem cells.

The Tribune tells the story of what connected the two and how Mui’s decision at least in some part was made in memory of a friend of his who died at age 16 to leukemia.
