Glenview Obituary: Donald Francis Gardner, 90

Donald Francis Gardner, age 90, of Glenview, IL and formerly of Golf, IL. Died, Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, IL. Born in Chicago, May 3, 1925 to Hugh Gordon Gardner, Sr. and Mary Agnes nee Herbert. Mr. Gardner graduated from River Forest, IL, grammar schools, Oak Park – River Forest High School, 1943 and University of Colorado, B. A., 1951. Served in the United States Army during World War Two in the European Theater from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Gardner worked for the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company, until his retirement. He was on the Board of Directors for Northwest Commerce Bank for seventeen years. Past President and Director of the University of Colorado, Chicago Area Alumni Club and a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was a member and officer with the Illinois Seniors Golf Assoc., Chicago District Golf Assoc. for over 25 years, Exmoor Country Club, Union League Club of Chicago and Lifetime member of the Western Golf Association’s Evans Scholars Foundation. Mr. Gardner was a past Trustee and from 1965 to 1969 was the Mayor of the Village of Golf, IL. In 2014, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Chicago District Golf Assoc.

Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Gardner nee Bruemmer; loving father of Anne E. Gardner, John B. Gardner and Thomas H. Gardner; dear brother of Herbert (Molly) Gardner, the late Mary Jane (the late Maurice) Davy and the late Hugh (Mildred “Cass”) Gardner; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation Thursday, July 30, 2015, 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Road, Skokie, IL 60077.

Funeral Service Friday, July 31, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Glenview Community Church, 1000 Elm Street, at Glenview Road, Glenview, IL 60025.

Burial Private.
