James S. Martinsen, 81, of Glenview, formally of Sarasota, FL and originally of Racine, WI. Beloved husband for 60 years of Nancy nee Anderson; cherished father of Michael (Grace) Martinsen, Susan Martinsen and Kristen (Jeff) Kjome and the late Bradford Martinsen ; proud and loving grandfather of Michael (Amanda), Luke (Elyse) and Grace Martinsen (fiancée Tom Deschamps), Sam, Sarah and Jack Kjome; great grandfather of Michael James Martinsen Jr.; dear brother of Marion Zirbes and Lois (William) Lamb; dear brother in law of Shirley (the late Donald) Velzka; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Served in the US Army during the Korean War, then received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the U. of Wisconsin. Worked for S.C. Johnson & Sons for 35 illustrious years, including establishing manufacturing capabilities in Japan in the early 70’s to establishing the Chinese joint ventures that became significant contributors to SCJ’s Global presence. In between that span he spent a great deal of time leading charitable and developmental endeavors; member and past president of the Racine Jaycees, Chairman of United Way annual campaign, member of the US-China Business Council, member, Past President and Director of the Wisconsin World Trade Center, and served on boards of various companies seeking to expand their global potential. Yet his greatest legacy was the love and support he provided his family.
Visitation Thursday April 30th, 2015, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Rd. Skokie, IL 60077. Visitation Saturday May 2, 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 1925 Summit Ave, Racine, WI 53404.
