Glenview Obituary: Norman E. Borgeson, 91

Norman E. Borgeson, 91, of Glenview, IL, beloved husband of Joan Schuett Borgeson, passed away at home surrounded by family on Friday, October 30, 2015.

As a son of Swedish Immigrants and a citizen of America’s Greatest Generation, he endured the Great Depression in Evanston, IL. With great pride for his country he answered the call to duty for World War II at the age of eighteen and took on the challenge of flight school and Officer training for the Army Air Corp. Upon receiving his commission, he was assigned to the 8th Air Force’s 492nd Bomb Group out of Harrington, England. In this Flight Detachment, he Co-Piloted B-24 Liberator Bombers in support of the OSS (predecessor to the CIA). He and his crew flew single aircraft missions at night to drop spies, supplies and saboteurs deep into the occupied countries of Northern Europe until the arrival of VE Day.

Norman attended the University of Illinois (Class of 1950) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. Shortly after his graduation, he embarked on a 35 year career at Washington National Insurance Company. In addition to management responsibilities for Underwriting, he served as the company’s Credit Union President and Treasurer for over 10 years.

Norman was a cherished father to a daughter, Laura Borgeson (Brian Schweigel) and a son, Keith (Keryn) Borgeson; devoted grandfather of four grandchildren, Brynne, Daniel, Sandy and Louisa; loving brother
to Lois Pearson, the late Evelyn Paver and the late Earl Borgeson; and dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Visitation Thursday November 5, 2015, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3637 Golf Road, Evanston, IL 60203.

Will lie in state Friday November 6, 2015, 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3637 Golf Road, Evanston, IL 60203.

Interment Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Road, Skokie, IL 60076

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 3637 Golf Road, Evanston, IL 60203.
