Glenview Obituary: William H. Phelan, M.D., 88

William H. Phelan, M.D. age 88 of Glenview died peacefully on August 4, 2015 surrounded by loving family. He was born September 15, 1926 in Albany, New York to Thomas W., M.D. and Helen (Rausch) Phelan. Bill graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1944 and served briefly in the Navy before attending the College of the Holy Cross where he graduated in 1949. He graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from Albany Medical College in 1953 and practiced internal medicine at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center for more than 45 years. His greatest passion was practicing medicine and caring for the sick. His commitment was appreciated by many of his patients even years after his retirement. Bill was also an avid fly fisherman travelling worldwide with his sons and grandsons. He is the beloved father of John M. (the late Ann Lee) Phelan, M.D., William H. Jr. (Margaret) Phelan, Thomas W. (Suzanne) Phelan, Julie A. ( Ron) Thauer and the late Elizabeth M. Phelan; loving grandfather of Catherine Elizabeth, Sarah Anne, Laura Jayne, John Michael, Matthew Thomas, William Henry III, Emily Claire, Mary Katherine, Thomas William, Jr., Lindsay Nicole Phelan, Maximillian William, Ronald Joseph, Jr. and Ian Phelan Thauer; dear brother of Helen (Ed) Howe, Col. Frank (Gayle) Phelan, Mary Rose (the late Robert) Chapman, John (Marilyn) Phelan, the late Margaret (James, M.D.) Gavin and the late Rev. Thomas Phelan; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; former husband and friend of Evlyn Betar. Visitation Saturday August 15, 2015, 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 at Donnellan Family Funeral Home 10045 Skokie Blvd. Skokie, IL 60077. Funeral Mass Saturday, August 15, 2015, 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church 1775 Grove St. Glenview, IL 60025 . Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery New York. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Misericordia in honor of Elizabeth Phelan or Albany Medical College in his name. . .
