Glenview Police Ramp Up St. Patrick's Day DUI Enforcement

Police are warning drivers to not drive drunk as Thursday's holiday approaches.

GLENVIEW, IL — "Even a little alcohol is too much when you’re driving" is a mantra the Glenview Police Department is reminding residents of as they get set for St. Patrick's Day on Thursday. Police have been conducting extra driving under the influence enforcement since last Friday and will continue to do so through this Friday.

The increased enforcement is part of the Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over and Drive High Or Get a DUI campaigns from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

In addition to looking for alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers, police said it will be stepping up seat-belt enforcement, particularly at night when seat-belt usage rates are lowest. Glenview police will also be ramping up enforcement of speeding, distracted driving and other traffic laws.

Police said while designating a sober driver is the simplest way to avoid a traffic crash or DUI arrest, here are some additional tips:

  • If a friend is about to drive impaired, take their keys and help them get home safely
  • Buckle up, it's your best defense in the event of a crash
  • Remember, pedestrians are at risk, too. If you're walking, keep an eye out for cars. If you're driving, remain alert for impaired walkers who may not obey street signs.
