Glenview Resident Deepens Faith With Religious Commitment In Indiana
Susan Yochum recently became a providence associate with the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

GLENVIEW, IL — Following a year of study, prayer and reflection, Glenview resident recently made a commitment as a providence associate with the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana. Yochum was joined by 20 other 2022 associates choosing to "walk more closely" with the Sisters of the Providence, according to the community of vowed Catholic women.
Sister Susan Paweski, co-director of the providence associate program, said for someone to become a providence associate, they are paired with a sister or a current providence associate. Yochum was companioned with Alice Shelton, a providence associate, according to a news release.
"Both candidate and companion commit to praying and meeting on a regular basis to unfold the mission and ministry of the Sisters of Providence," Paweski said. "A binder of materials — the Spiritual Integration Units — provides the background, spirituality and mission of the Congregation."

With the latest commitments, the total number of providence associates in the United States and Taiwan is more than 300, according to Paweski.
According to its website, Sisters of Providence are a community of Catholic women religious who collaborate with others to create a more just and hope-filled world through prayer, education, service and advocacy.
