Glenview Traffic Stop Snags Suspects In Niles Home Burglary

Quick communication with officers on a suburban task force led to arrests within 30 minutes of the report of a burglary Friday night.

GLENVIEW, IL — Three men were arrested Friday in Glenview shortly after a home in Niles was burglarized, police said. Two were charged with residential burglary and possession of burglary tools, both felonies, while a third was charged with misdemeanor possession of stolen property.

A homeowner in the 7900 block of Oketo Avenue called police shortly before 10 p.m. to report someone had ransacked his family's home that evening, stealing about $700 in cash, a laptop and $3,000 worth of jewelry, according to Niles police.

About 30 minutes later, a suburban anti-burglary police task force pulled over a vehicle in Glenview, according to Cmdr. Robert Tornabene. The men in the car were suspected of taking part in burglaries in other jurisdictions and had been seen in the area where the burglary was reported.

During the traffic stop, a detective from Niles, who was aware of the home burglary that had just occurred, noticed there were several suspicious items inside the car. A Niles officer still at the crime scene provided a photo of the items that had just been reported stolen, along with details of the burglary and the three men were taken into custody, Tornabene said.

Aco Ivanov, 47, of the 200 block of South Fork Drive, Gurnee, and Duro Ivanov, 50, of the 5200 block of North Virginia Avenue, Chicago, each face a maximum sentence of 18 years if convicted of both felony counts. Ali Moro, 18, of the 25900 block of N. Arrowhead Drive, Mundelien, can be sentenced to no more than a year in prison if found guilty.
