Golf Recap: 46th Annual Dave Rowlands Glenview Open
Rainy weather affects course while new rules mean more players enjoy a second day of play.
Play at the 46th Annual Dave Rowlands Glenview Open began with threats of rain and a subsequent sea of umbrellas as 81 players took to the course at the Glenview Park Golf Club, 800 Shermer Rd.
Just after 10 a.m. Saturday, course manager Ron Cassidy blew the horn for suspension of play and after an hour, the tournament resumed.
The rainy conditions added a challenge for players but scores from the front nine were still impressive, said Richard Buchanan, a longtime Glenview resident and avid golfer.

"Golf is hard on a normal day," he added.
Other players hoped for more lenient cut offs to qualify for a second day of play on Sunday.

"I think the cut off will be higher than normal, due to the conditions," said Open Division player Matt Sontag, after finishing nine holes and preparing for the second half of his round on Saturday.
The rain wasn't the only tournament surprise. Brad Ingauatiato, last year's tournament winner, withdrew on Saturday. Day one results determined who would qualify to play Sunday— Open Division Players needed an 88, those in the Senior Division needed 84 and Super Seniors needed a score of 90.
Sunday brought ideal weather and a reverse order of play for participants.
Super Seniors started, followed by the Senior Division, the Open Division and finally, the Elite Division.
Even with the beautiful weather, players still navigated obstacles, including a couple sand traps with slight ponding as a result of Saturday's rain. At the tournament's close, players displayed solid sportsmanship, congratulating one another as they eagerly awaited the announcement of scores.
"I've played about 12 events this summer and this is one of the best," said Cody Sundberg, a repeat participant.
This weekend's tournament incorporated a new set of rules regarding advancement and allowed more players to enjoy a second day of play. Upon accepting his trophy, Open Division champion Joe Zich expressed his take on the break from tradition.
"Thanks for changing the rules," he said. "Last year I didn't even make the cut."
