League of Women Voters Hosts 10th Congressional Candidate Debate

10th Congressional and Lake County Clerk candidates to debate Sunday, Feb. 18, at North Shore Unitarian Church, Bannockburn, doors open 1:30

The League of Women Voters is holding debates for candidates in two hotly contested local primary races this weekend.

Three Republican 10th District Congressional candidates will square off, along with two Democrats competing to run for Lake County County Clerk. The debate will take place Feb. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. (Doors open at 1:30 p.m.) at North Shore Unitarian Church, 2100 Half Day Rd., Bannockburn. Attendees will have an opportunity to hear candidates speak about local issues, their positions, as well as ask questions.

The candidates in the March 20 Republican primary to challenge Democratic incumbent Rep. Brad Schneider are Doug Bennett (Deerfield), Sapan Shaw (Libertyville), and Jeremy Wynes (Highland Park).

The trio of political newcomers have widely differing backgrounds, policy positions, and priorities. One has signed Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform pledge, while another one is pro-choice. Some of the controversial areas the candidates may not agree include infrastructure, Israel, Obamacare, tort reform, spending, and the travel ban. As the three men have not held office previously, their answers will be important in helping voters decide.

The two Democratic candidates for Lake County Clerk, Ms. Robin O’Connor (Libertyville) and Adam Broad (Buffalo Grove) have been active in politics for many years. However, they do differ in their approaches to improving the Clerk’s office, and this could be important to residents.
