Lehigh Bridge Replacement Forces Week-Long Northbound Closure in Glenview
Everyone's favorite shortcut from downtown Glenview to Costco has been temporarily cut off.

GLENVIEW, Ill. – Starting April 6, northbound lanes on Lehigh Avenue—just north of Glenview Road—will be shut down for five days as part of an ongoing bridge replacement over East Lake Avenue. The closure runs through April 10.

Cook County crews are leading the full replacement of the aging Lehigh Bridge, which was flagged for structural concerns. Beam removal began in early 2026, and drivers can expect significant lane reductions, traffic shifts, and flaggers on site through spring and summer.

Recent work has also included overnight lane closures on Lake Avenue from midnight to 5 a.m.
“The village has done a good job keeping Lake and Lehigh open,” said Gregory Hahn, standing outside the Jewel parking lot on Patriot Boulevard. “But I can’t imagine they could replace an entire bridge without completely shutting the road down for a couple months.” Hahn added that he hopes Lake Avenue itself won’t have to close.

Most through traffic is being redirected to Patriot Road or Waukegan Road. The project is also eating into parking at the Downtown Glenview Train Station, with disruptions expected to last through 2026.
Officials recommend monitoring the Village of Glenview newsroom or following its Facebook page for real-time, day-to-day closure updates.
The full bridge replacement is projected to wrap by June or July 2026. Glenview has not yet responded to questions about whether a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held when the new bridge officially opens.
