Stormwater Presentation

Dear Editor,

I’d like to thank the Leagues of Women Voters of Winnetka-Northfield-Kenilworth, Glencoe, Wilmette, Evanston and Glenview for sponsoring the educational program on storm water flooding and Lake Michigan Water quality on October 21 at New Trier West high school. The program, titled “ Managing Stormwater/Protecting Lake Michigan; Determining the Future Now” featured prominent storm water specialists from the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois EPA, as well as project managers for two local municipal flood control projects and a Lake Michigan expert.

More than 175 people attended this weekday evening program, and many submitted informed questions about issues – flooding and water pollution—that affect us all. The turnout communicates the importance of these topics to residents of our Illinois north shore. The meeting was a continuation of the League of Women Voters of Illinois’s year-long education effort regarding appropriate storm water management.

We all can continue to study flooding and water quality issues by contacting our local Leagues and viewing the resources available on-line at the League of Women Voters of the Lake Michigan Region web page: http://www.lwvlmr.org/. I understand a full recording of the October 21st meeting will be available on that website in a few weeks.

Sincerely,
