New Culver's Given Initial OK by Village Board

The proposed location is planned for Waukegan Road near Chelsea Avenue.

GLENVIEW, IL — The Village Board gave initial approval Tuesday for a new Culver's restaurant despite protests by neighbors near the proposed location at Waukegan Road, the Daily North Shore reports.

Trustees gave unanimous preliminary approval to Culver's for a permit for an eatery with a drive-through window at the 1727 Waukegan Road, the report stated. Final approval will most likely come when the board votes on the permit during its Sept. 6 meeting.

More than 40 residents who live near the proposed location, however, tried to persuade trustees to nix the proposal, the North Shore reports. Neighbors argued that the addition of Culver's would increase traffic and create additional noise and litter, the report added.

Dannie Thomas, the franchise's owner, already has made accommodations to address some of those concerns as part of the approval process, the report stated. That includes creating measure to help manage traffic congestion on Waukegan Road from southbound left turns, as well as closing the restaurant at 10 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays instead of 11 p.m., the report added.

Once final approval is given, Thomas said he wants to begin construction in the fall and open some time in the first quarter of 2017, according to the report.
