New Fire Station Approved By Glenview Village Board
The existing Fire Station 8 would be demolished at 1901 Landwehr Road.

GLENVIEW, IL — Same site, new building. The Glenview Village Board approved a new fire station at its meeting Tuesday night, to be built where the current one sits at 1901 Landwehr Road. The existing Fire Station 8 building would be demolished.
With the approval, construction could begin immediately with units assigned to Fire Station 8 operating from alternate locations during construction, which is estimated to take up to 12 months.
The proposed building would occupy 13,843 square feet compared to the 13,055 square feet of the current station, according to a Village Board report on the proposed project. It would feature three full size apparatus bays for the Fire Department vehicles, living quarters, and offices all on one floor for the on-duty firefighters.

All emergency vehicles would exit onto Landwehr Road directly with traffic, control provided by an Opticom light system northwest of the building at Landwehr Road and Hospital Drive.
The Glenview Plan Commission recommended approval at its July 21 meeting by a unanimous 6-0 vote. During that meeting, the commission had expressed concern regarding architecture on the southern elevation and requested the Appearance Commission evaluate the possibilities for that elevation.

The existing building was originally part of the Glenbrook Fire Protection Department, for which the Glenview Fire Department began providing fire and EMS service in 1994, according to a Village Board report. The Village of Glenview and the Glenview Park District negotiated a land swap last year to accommodate the expansion of the Glenview Ice Center.
