New Sidewalks Coming To The Glen in 2016

Project for $3 million should last for 20-30 years.

Sidewalks in The Glen’s main commercial strip will be rebuilt in 2016 at a cost of $3 million, according to the Glenview Announcements.

Planning Director Jeffrey Brady, current sidewalks along Tower Drive, Aviator Lane, Valor Lane, Wolverine Drive and Navy Boulevard have been damaged by annual freeze/thaw cycles over the last 12 years.

They are cracking and heaving where saw-cuts were made for aesthetic reasons and where granite pavers were placed around tree trunks, creating tripping hazards and occasionally tilting rainwater toward buildings instead of curbs.

The other option was to spend $1.3 million to simply repair the current sidewalks, but the unanimous consensus among trustees was that would not be as efficient since they would likely need to be repaired again, whereas the new sidewalks would be built to last 20-30 years.
