North Shore Schools Excel at Chess
Stevenson, New Trier, Evanston, Niles North and Highland Park all among the top 12 in Illinois.
The North Shore had quite a showing at the IHSA State Chess Championship held over the weekend in Peoria. Of the top 12 teams at the tournament, six are from the North Shore or surrounding areas.
While the tournament was won by Naperville North, area teams Stevenson (2nd), New Trier (3rd), Evanston (5th), Glenbrook South (6th), Niles North (9th) and Highland Park (11th) had strong showings.
A post on the Daily North Shore shows a total of 146 schools officially entered the tournament, according to Illinois High School Association.
