NSSC Hosts Passions Project: Reframing Aging Through Photography

Community residents are invited to visit North Shore Senior Center (NSSC), Northfield, for a reception and unveiling of professional photographer Heidi Wagner’s Passions Project exhibit on Thursday, July 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 161 Northfield Road.

The Passions Project is a portrait series that captures the essence of older adults doing what they love—from painting and theater to community service and sports. Through her lens, Wagner offers a new view of aging that includes vitality, independence, and learning.

The public is invited to hear Heidi Wagner share her story and explore how the creative power of photography and portraiture can help reframe negative stereotypes and bring about change in social perceptions on aging.

Register here or call 847.784.6030. Registration is required, but there is no charge to attend. Membership to North Shore Senior Center is not required. Wagner’s exhibit will remain on display at NSSC’s gallery through August 26, 2022.

According to Wagner, “When you see someone doing what they love, you no longer see their age, you see their passion.” Her vision for The Passions Project evolved through her work in a community of elders wherein she realized that many of the people she encountered and came to know lead active, full lives.

“Through photographing these older adults in the midst of actively living out their passions, I could share a very new view of aging,” Wagner said.

“Through my photography lens, I have experienced the opportunity to see aging as an exciting time filled with vitality and wellness, wherein each day has a purpose.”
