Putting the Pause in Impulsivity

Dr. Clatch writes about impulse control when a child has ADHD, and how parents and educators can help.

While impulse control is a difficult process for most kids (think about the last time your child wanted a toy at the checkout), for children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) impulsivity can be even more of a challenge. Even as children with ADHD age, their ability to control their impulsive actions may be limited, requiring parents and caregivers to carefully consider what they can do to effectively put the pause impulsivity for ADHD Although finding what works for your child may require some trial and error, with care and persistence it is possible to help children with ADHD effectively manage their impulsivity.
