Rotary Clubs Unite to Restore Cook County Forest Preserve

GLENVIEW, IL — May 16, 2026 — Six Rotary clubs from across Chicago's North Shore came together Saturday morning for the "Rotary Day of Restoration 2026," mobilizing more than 25 volunteers to help rehabilitate Miami Woods, Grove #1 in Morton Grove.

The three-hour event drew Rotarians, guests, and community members from the Rotary Clubs of Arlington Heights, Evanston Lighthouse, Glenview Sunrise, Northbrook, Park Ridge, and Wilmette — part of Rotary District 6440's growing commitment to environmental stewardship in the region.

Rolling Up Their Sleeves

Working alongside staff from the Friends of the Forest Preserves' Conservation Corps and Engagement Team, volunteers spent the morning removing invasive plant species to make room for plants of benefit to the forest. The team also cleared dead wood and debris to reduce fire hazards and improve trail access. Guided nature hikes led by forest preserve experts gave participants a firsthand look at native ecosystems and the ongoing effort to protect them.

"Rotary members and guests came together to improve the Forest Preserve by removing invasive plants and debris.” said Scott Daniels of the Rotary District 6440 Environmental Task Force. “This was a stellar opportunity to truly be people of action and serve environment.”

About the Initiative

The Day of Restoration is part of a broader series of Rotary-led environmental initiatives in District 6440. Open to the public, the events are designed to address the growing threat of invasive species and promote long-term ecological health across the Cook County Forest Preserves.
