Scammer Attempts To Bilk Grandparent Of $18K: Glenview Police Blotter

The caller told the resident their "grandson" needed the money for bond, according to police.

Jorge Jaimes-Vital, 50, of the 700 block of 7th Street, Northfield, is accused of domestic battery, and was arrested at 8:37 a.m. June 30, following an investigation. He was taken to bond court.

Daniel Ochab, 22, of the 1600 block of Robin Lane, Glenview, is accused of battery, and was arrested at 3:24 a.m. July 5, in Glenview. He was released on a $2,500 I-Bond with a court date of July 18 assigned.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A business owner in the 1700 block of Glenview Road reported that between June 25 and June 28, someone put glue in the lock on the front door of the business.
  • An employee of the Glenview Park District reported at 6:21 a.m. July 1, someone attempted to pry open the Pepsi vending machine at Community Park West, 1001 Zenith Drive.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

A Glenview resident called police at 1:34 p.m June 28, to report someone called and requested $18,000 in cash in order to bond out their grandson. The resident asked the caller several follow-up questions about their grandson, which he answered incorrectly. The victim recognized this as a scam and ended the call.

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

A Chicago resident was cited at 1:05 a.m. June 29, for no valid driver's license, no rear registration lights, following a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue. They were released on a $2,500 I-Bond with a court date set for Aug. 1.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A Glenview resident reported that during the overnight hours of June 29, someone shattered the rear window on their vehicle and moved items around in their trunk while it was parked in the 1600 block of Waukegan Road.

THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE PARTS

A business owner in the 1900 block of Lehigh Avenue reported that between June 15 and June 29, someone stole the catalytic converter from a work truck while it was parked in the lot.

  • A Glenview resident called police at 10:38 a.m. June 29, to report someone stole a package from his residence in the 1100 block of Castilian Court.
  • A Wood Dale resident reported that while shopping at a business in the 2200 block of Willow Road between 1 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. July 1, someone stole a wallet after it was left in a cart.

SPEEDING

A Niles resident was cited at 9:54 p.m. June 29, for speeding 26+ mph over the speed limit, having an expired registration, following a traffic stop in the 500 block of Milwaukee Avenue. They were released on a $2,500 I-Bond with a court date of July 18 scheduled.

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

  • A resident of Grayson, Georgia, was cited at 8:16 p.m. June 29, for speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, driving while license suspended, following a traffic stop in the 900 block of Milwaukee Avenue. They were released on a $2,500 I-Bond with a court date of Aug. 15 scheduled.
  • A Glenview resident was cited at 12:47 a.m. July 1, for driving with a revoked license, speeding 26+mph over the speed limit, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to notify the Secretary of State of an address change, following a traffic stop in the 10000 block of Michael Todd Terrace. They were released on a I-Bond with a court date of Aug. 15 assigned.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Glenview resident reported at 11:27 p.m. June 30, someone stole their wallet, containing numerous credit cards, after it was lost at a business in the 2400 block of Chestnut Avenue

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

An Arlington Heights resident called police at 1:51 p.m. July 1, to report that while driving in the 1900 block of Tower Drive, someone threw an ice cream cone, striking the front windshield of their vehicle.

BURGLARY

A business owner in the 2200 block of Waukegan Road reported at 2:04 a.m. July 2, someone threw a rock through the front door of the business and stole numerous items from inside the business.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A Deerfield resident reported that between 4:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. July 2, someone smeared a chocolate bar on the windshield and scratched the trunk of their vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot of a business in the 2900 block of Patriot Boulevard.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A Glenview resident called police at 11:21 a.m. July 3, to report a small plastic Ziplock bag with rice and antisemitic papers in their driveway in the 600 block of Harms Road.
