School Begins With Synchronous E-Learning In August: District 225
Glenbrook High School District 225 made the announcement at a Monday night meeting discussing remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
GLENVIEW, IL — Admitting things could change depending on whether the state moves into Phase 4 of its Restore Illinois plan, Glenbrook High School District 225 announced Monday night its tentative plan for returning to learning in the fall. Synchronous online classes, for the 2020-2021 school year beginning Aug. 19, will be required and will follow a schedule, mirroring a school day, according to a press release from the district.
The board of education said the following "guiding principles" were used to develop the plan that includes:
- Maintain the health and safety of all students and staff;
- Provide meaningful and engaging academic experiences for all students;

Until able to fully return, the District states its approach is to provide students with an E-Learning experience that mirrors as much of a normal school day as possible.
"We also acknowledge that there are times when our students need access to face-to-face interactions and services within the school building," the release reads. "Taking these elements into consideration, we have developed a unique learning experience that we have termed, 'Enriched E-Learning with a Gradual Return Model.'"

In the current version of this plan, all students will begin with e-Learning on Aug. 19, according to the District. This will include a return to traditional academic expectations including:
- Attendance
- Grading
- Required live synchronous class sessions
- Assessments
Synchronous online classes will be required and will follow a schedule, mirroring a school day. After Labor Day, face-to-face services will be available to students, in a variety of formats, and may include academic support, counseling, case management, and related services.
