The Simple Gifts Concert Series of the Glenview Community Church presents "The King's Journey" - An Opera in Two Acts
Original Epiphany opera to be presented Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 7:00pm in the sanctuary.
“The King’s Journey” is an original two-act opera with music by Bobbie McKay and lyrics by Lew Musil and Bobbie McKay. We meet Halim, an antiquarian, who stumbles upon the beginning of the story of one Melchior, a Zoroastrian priest, who follows a star and finds God! This concert performance will feature GCC soloists. Guillermo Muñoz Küster, Conductor.
Reverend Bobbie McKay, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. Her Ph.D. is from Northwestern University in Counseling Psychology. She is the author of six published books; has led over 900 seminars and workshops having to do with spiritual life and psychological health. She designed and completed an interfaith research study in spiritual llfe with over 4000 participants and additional research studies in Spiritual Life in Older Adults and Adolescent Spiritual Life. She is currently a Pastoral Associate in Spiritual Life at the Glenview Community Church, Glenview, lllinois.
Lewis A. Musil, MFA holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Chicago and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Art Institute, Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Musil was a writer, producer and director of theater and television for twenty years. He was a Visiting Professor in the use of Religion and the Arts at Garrett Theological Seminary for two years. He also taught at the Goodman Theater School of the Art Institute. He was chairman of the Department of Creative Drama in the Evanston Public Schools for sixteen years.

A native of Santiago, Chile, Guillermo Muñoz Küster earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Guitar and Voice from Lebanon Valley College (Annville, PA) and a Master of Music degree in Conducting and Classical Guitar from the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern
University where he studied with conductors Robert Harris and Stephen Alltop and classical guitarist Anne Waller. Muñoz Küster brings with him a diverse set of skills as a choral and orchestral conductor, classical guitarist, and singer.

For the last three seasons, Muñoz Küster has been Assistant Conductor of the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, where he has conducted the choir on live TV appearances and concert performances. Prior to serving Assistant Conductor with Apollo, he served as the first-ever conducting apprentice in the chorus’ near 150-year history. Mr. Muñoz Küster also performs with Music of the Baroque, the Grant Park Symphony Chorus, and has worked and performed with choruses and orchestras around the country as a guest conductor or ensemble member.
