Too much Juvederm? ....I think so!

Lip augmentation is a hot procedure in Plastic Surgery nowadays, most likely because of Angelina Jolie, whose lips are one of her most defining and memorable features. As a plastic surgeon, who has done many lip augmentation with both Juvederm and fat, I can say with some confidence the key to Angelina Jolie's lips is that they are mostly natural. She may have had some touch up work, but basically, as I see it, those lips are hers (she was born with them!) and not the work of a skilled Plastic Surgeon. But that doesn't stop most folks from trying, and as a result, lip augmentation, as I have stated, has become a hot procedure, but doing it well requires judgement, which is not always as abundant as you might think. Sometimes people want dramatic results, and that is understandable, especially in the case of celebrities like Angelina Jolie. They need to get noticed because that is one of the things they do for a living. But there is a fine line between dramatic and unusual and weird, and no one is immune to it--including celebrities. Here is an example of too much Juvederm in Jessica Simpson. Luckily, Juvederm's effects do not last forever, and eventually lip fullness will fade. If this were fat though, that would be another story...she may then require a surgical procedure to help reduce the fullness of the lips. As in all things, the key to achieving beauty doesn't lie in greater technology but aesthetic perception and judgement, but skill that is honed through time, and work, patience and balance, as well as a great respect for both patients and nature.
