The paintings of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec are almost synonymous with the Montmartre district of Paris at the end of the nineteenth century. In terms of style and content, his work reflected the modernity, spectacle and decadence of the social milieu. Using his background as an art history teacher at the university level for more than 20 years, Jeff will discuss the major works by Toulouse-Lautrec and provide an art historical context for each in this slide lecture. He will also relate these works to those painted by other important artists working in Paris during the same period.
