Pellet Gun Found In Student's Backpack At Glenview School: Police

The school was placed into a soft lockdown after the Friday afternoon discovery as students were not allowed to leave their classrooms.

GLENVIEW, IL — Students at Attea Middle School were not allowed to leave their classrooms and there was no hallway movement for a short time Friday afternoon following the discovery of a pellet gun in a student's backpack. According to police, the Airsoft CO2-style pellet device was never displayed by the student and the student population's safety was not compromised.

At around 12:02 p.m., police responded to the school at 2500 Chestnut Ave. Police said there were no specific threats made toward any students or school officials. The student was petitioned to Cook County Juvenile Court on a charge of disorderly conduct, before being released to the custody of his parents.

Police said the school has since resumed its normal schedule following the incident. They believe it was an isolated circumstance, with no known threat to the public.
