YMCA Pool Party Goes Green with St. Paddy's Day Spirit
Kids can dive for "gold" and enjoy indoor swimming at the North Suburban Y on March 14.
For kids looking to capture a bit of leprechaun gold this spring, the North Suburban YMCA will hold its 2015 “Dive for Gold” pool party on Saturday, March 14. This family event, which is free for NSYMCA members and only $10 per family for non-members, invites guests to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the chance to help turn the Y’s indoor pool green while collecting gold tokens from the bottom. Kids can turn in their tokens for goody bags full of fun surprises as the event wraps up. The swim party runs from 2:00 to 3:45pm at the Y, 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook.
“The Dive for Gold Party has become a great tradition for Northbrook, mirroring the city of Chicago’s annual event that kicks off St. Patrick’s Day celebrations,” notes Don Enger, NSYMCA Aquatics Director. “Local families come together for a fun event, giving them the opportunity to disconnect from everyday bustle and connect with one another. They get to enjoy free swim time, with the added challenge of finding the gold. All that activity helps circulate the green dye that we add to the water, so by the end of the party we have a great emerald-tinted pool that lasts right through St. Patrick’s Day.”
The Y’s indoor pool is host to a wide variety of activities, including top-rated swim lessons, lap swimming, water-based fitness classes, and private rental pool parties. To better serve the Y’s diverse community, the Y’s aquatics staff offers swim instruction in English, Spanish, French, Korean, Russian, Persian, and Italian. For more information about aquatics programs at the North Suburban Y, or about the Dive for Gold event on March 14, contact Don Enger at denger@nsymca.org or visit www.nsymca.org.
