$1.5 million in scholarships still available this fall at CLC

There are hundreds of flexible classes meeting in person and online that haven't started yet.

With over 100 opportunities and $1.5 million in scholarships still available, students can enroll in fall late-start classes at College of Lake County (CLC) through November. There are hundreds of flexible classes meeting in person and online that haven’t started yet and plenty of scholarship dollars available to help make them more affordable.

CLC tuition is on average one third the cost of public universities and one ninth the cost of private universities in Illinois. The cost to attend classes at CLC is especially discounted when students take advantage of scholarships and financial aid. Approximately one in four CLC students currently receives some form of financial aid.

“Our financial aid counselors walk students through their FASFA forms, scholarship applications and anything else they need help with,” said financial aid director Vatistas Vatistas. “We’re dedicated to providing access to financial resources so students can focus on classroom success, not their balance due.”

Since changes were made to the online scholarship application in January, students find it much easier to search for scholarships they can apply to, thanks to scholarship coordinator Nathan Grubb. He reduced the number of questions, made them more concise and circumvented the traditional alphabetized listings of opportunities. Now students don’t get overwhelmed and bogged down by scholarships they don’t qualify for.

“In past years, students would complete the general application but there were still many more scholarships they’d have to apply to manually,” said Grubb. “We’ve seen an 80 percent increase in scholarship applications because students are able to find better matches more quickly. It’s simple and easy to apply.”

The financial aid office provides live call services and email support, plus appointments can be conducted by phone or virtually. Currently, limited on-campus appointments are available. Students can call (847) 543-2062 or email finaid@clcillinois.edu.
