1 Arrested After Assault Rifle Stolen From Weapons Sale
Juan J. Renteria-Becerra was taken into custody late Sunday evening in connection with April 7 theft in Round Lake Park.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – A Mundelein man has been arrested for stealing an assault rifle during a weapons sale in Round Lake Park last month. Juan J. Renteria-Becerra, 32, of the 400 block of Prospect Avenue, was taken into custody Sunday evening for the April 7 theft, authorities said. Renteria-Becerra is accused of stealing the AR-15 assault rifle from the personal weapons sale in the 100 block of Davis Court on Round Lake Park in early April, according to a news release from the Round Lake Park Police Department.

The Round Lake Park Police Department in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Lake County Gang Task Force investigated the theft and developed Renteria-Becerra as a suspect, police said. A lead late Sunday led investigators to a Mundelein home where they found the assault rifle and Renteria-Becerra.

Renteria-Becerra was arrested and has been charged with possession of a stolen firearm, a Class 2 felony; unlawful possession of a firearm, a Class 3 felony; and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.
