2 Girls Killed In Jet Ski, Boat Crash On Lake Marie In Lake County: Police
Authorities said one of the girls was driving the jet ski at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred near the Gass Lake Channel.
ANTIOCH, IL — Two girls died Tuesday when the jet ski they were operating crashed into a boat on Lake Marie in Antioch, authorities said.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, a 16-year-old girl from California and a 13-year-old girl from Long Grove were killed when their jet ski crashed into a Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser near the Gass Lake Channel around 5:15 p.m.
Authorities said the older girl was driving the jet ski at a high rate of speed directly toward the boat when the crash occurred. The girls, who were wearing life jackets, were knocked unconscious and thrown into the water.

The four people aboard the Sea Ray immediately pulled the girls from the water, called 911, and provided aid, authorities said. One of the girls was taken to shore by the driver of the Sea Ray, while the other girl was taken by the driver of another passing boat.
The girls were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where both were pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported. Authorities also did not release the names of the victims.
The crash remains under investigation.
