3 Dead After SUV Crashes, Catches Fire In Gurnee: Police

The incident remained under investigation Sunday, police said.

GURNEE, IL — Three people were found dead inside a crashed SUV that caught fire overnight in Gurnee, according to police.

The Jeep collided with a tree line along Route 132 near North Greenleaf Street and was found, ablaze, shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday by officers, who called the Gurnee Fire Department to extinguish the flames, police said. Officers learned three people inside the SUV had died but were unable to identify them, according to police.

Grand Avenue between First and North Greenleaf streets was closed in both directions, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
