3 Stole, Altered Checks From 91-Year-Old Man's Mailbox: Police
Two women and one man now faces forgery charges for accusations they stole thousands of dollars in cash from the Antioch-area man.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — Authorities are looking to arrest three people accused of targeting a 91-year-old Lake County man, altering checks he attempted to mail to pay bills and cashing those checks.
The man, who lives in the 38200 block of North Bolton Place in unincorporated Antioch, contacted police after receiving late notices on bills he thought he'd paid, Christopher Covelli, deputy chief for the Lake County Sheriff's Office, told Patch in an email response.
Police said they learned he put several envelopes containing checks in his mailbox as outgoing mail, and those checks were stolen, altered and cashed. Detectives with the sheriff's office obtained bank documents, looked through video surveillance and conducted interviews before issues arrest warrants for Elizabeth Tiskevich, Jessica Garlock and David Kaminski.

Authorities say the trio worked together to drive around various neighborhoods, steal checks from the mail, then alter and make the checks payable to themselves.
"They stole thousands of dollars by doing so," Covelli said.

All three have been charged with forgery, he said.
