9 New Stores, Restaurants Coming To Hawthorn Mall

A new museum, coffee shop, gaming center and more have opened or will be opening soon at the mall in Vernon Hills.

VERNON HILLS, IL — Hawthorn Mall announced nine new tenants have already opened or plan to open soon at the shopping center.

Some businesses have already open and others are coming soon. Among the businesses that have already open are:

  • BHOP E-Sports, which has opened a 6,400-square-foot gaming center on the upper level at the mall near JcPenney
  • Local Heroes, a pop-up shop featuring a variety of local brands or streetwear clothing and accessories on the lower level near Center Park
  • Angela’s Caribbean Cuisine, which is located in the dining court and serves up Caribbean food.

  • Sleep Number: The highly anticipated 4,032-square-foot Sleep Number store, built as part of the shopping center’s redevelopment, is expected to open this week just off Townline Road.
  • Gideon Museum & Gallery: A museum featuring Biblical art and archaeology, the Gideon Museum & Gallery will focus on early human history from the fertile Crescent in the ancient Middle East and its impact on the modern world and religion of today. Collections will include full-scale replicas of the Dead Sea Scrolls as well as replicas of Sumerian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Israelite, Roman and Greek artifacts, special art exhibits, and a gift shop featuring unique gifts, books and more. The 11,877-square-foot Gideon Museum & Gallery, expected to open this fall, will be located on the lower level near Dave & Buster’s.
  • Little Bean Coffee Company: Located in the kiosk in Center Park, the new 300-square-foot Little Bean Coffee Company is expected to open this fall. The business will sell Anodyne coffee and a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads and baked goods.
  • T-Shirt Station: The 1,773-square-foot T-Shirt Station, to be located on the upper level near the dining court, is expected to open this fall. The screen-printing experts at the T-Shirt Station offer customers a wide variety of custom-designed t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts and hats perfect for birthday parties, graduation, family trips and other events with bulk order, senior and military discounts available.
  • From Aisha’s Kitchen and Touch of Love’s Catering: The two culinary experts will join together, sharing one 735-square-foot space at Hawthorn Mall in the dining court. Aisha’s Kitchen will provide a variety of sweet treats baked fresh daily from family recipes with all-natural ingredients. And, at Touch of Love’s Catering, Chef Verdell Love, Jr. delivers flavor-packed Cajun-style cuisine.

Jeff Ritzen, general manager for Hawthorn Mall, credits new additions at the mall, including the new Center Park, for drawing more foot traffic, which "is very attractive to new retailers and restaurants." Mall officials also recently announced that new luxury apartments will be opening soon as part of the center's "new live-work-play environment."

Hawthorn has recently embarked on a comprehensive redevelopment meant to transform the property from a traditional shopping center into a master-planned mixed-use development. This redevelopment is the largest capital investment in the property since its grand opening nearly half a century ago.

Currently, the mall houses 120 specialty retailers, including Lake County’s only Maggiano’s and a state-of-the-art AMC Hawthorn 12 theater.
