HAINESVILLE, IL — Fire investigators say a townhouse fire in Hainesville that displaced two families was caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials.
Fire crews responded around 7:40 p.m. April 7 to the 100 block of Holiday Lane and found heavy flames coming from a window and the roof of the building, according to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. The fire started in the top floor of one unit and spread through the attic into a neighboring unit before firefighters brought it under control.
Two families were displaced due to significant fire and smoke damage, which is estimated at about $200,000. No residents were injured, but a firefighter suffered a minor injury and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
