LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Honduran national living in Lake Villa has been charged in Lake County after prosecutors said he harbored a missing child from Round Lake Beach and sexually abused her.
Mateo Ramos-Zuniga, 22, of Lake Villa, has been charged with multiple counts, including aggravated criminal sexual abuse and harboring a runaway, according to Lake & McHenry County Scanner. He is currently being held in the Lake County Jail pending further court proceedings.
Prosecutors say the 13-year-old girl met Ramos-Zuniga over the internet, ran away from her home in April and was later found at Ramos-Zuniga's home during the missing child investigation, according to the news report.
Prosecutors said the girl was later sexually assaulted whilebeing kept at the Lake Villa home, according to the article. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
Ramos-Zuniga is currently being held in the Lake County Jail pending further court proceedings.
