MUNDELEIN, IL — A 15-year-old Mundelein girl who died earlier this month after being struck by a freight train has been identified, authorities said.
Sylvia Bond died from blunt force injuries sustained during the collision on June 13, according to preliminary findings from an autopsy conducted by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities responded at approximately 2:20 p.m. on June 13 to the 200 block of East Park Street for a report of a pedestrian struck by a train. First responders arrived and located the girl, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a coroner’s office news release.
Bond’s death remains under investigation, according to Stephen Newton, chief deputy for the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
“The manner of death, be it accident or suicide, is still being investigated,” Newton told Patch on Tuesday.
He said toxicology testing has been ordered in the case, with results typically taking three to six weeks.
“As for toxicology, we do submit samples for cases such as these and result reports usually take 3 to 6 weeks,” Newton said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
