Police responded around 6:15 p.m. Friday to Route 120 and Cedar Lake Road, where witnesses said the driver of a Chevrolet fled on foot into the Nippersink Forest Preserve, the Lake & McHenry County Scanner is reporting. A police canine located Franky Flores hiding underwater beneath a bridge about 90 minutes later, and officers reported signs of intoxication and found open alcohol containers in his vehicle.
Flores is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, DUI, failure to report a crash involving injury, failure to reduce speed, improper transportation of alcohol and driving an uninsured vehicle. He remains in the Lake County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 14.
