The food drive was expected to deliver holiday essentials to families in the District 127 area who are in need this holiday season, according to the GCHS 22nd Annual Food Drive GoFundMe page.
“As many of you know, Grayslake Central High School’s 22nd Annual Food Drive has commenced,” the GoFundMe page said. “In addition to the door-to-door food collection and the in-school food drive, we are looking for as much support as we can in order to ensure that we are able to take care families in the D127 area who are in need this holiday season.”

Much of the food collected during the food drive was collected using a system where paper bags were left on doorsteps throughout the district on Nov. 15 and collected on Nov. 22, according to the Lake County News-Sun. The food was sorted by the Grayslake Lions Club and volunteers from the school’s Student Council and Public Service Practicum (PSP) program, the News-Sun reports.
In addition to a food drive, GCHS raised more than $1,800 through GoFundMe.com as of Friday. After sorting the tens of thousands of pounds of food, the News-Sun reports students plan on distributing the boxes of food in teams on early Saturday, Dec. 6.
