Audition opportunities at College of Lake County this fall

Take the stage this fall at College of Lake County (CLC). Dance, music and theatre auditions give you the chance to share your talent with the whole community.

CLC offers numerous opportunities for students and community members to showcase their artistry and participate in concerts, festivals and productions throughout the year. Read below to see what audition opportunities are coming up next.

Dance

The CLC Dance department hosts several productions annually, including the Winter Dance Concert in December and the Fear No Art Festival in April. Participants learn choreography from industry professionals and create their own dance pieces.

Auditions coming up include:

• Winter Dance Concert

CLC Dance lights up the stage with powerful movement and unforgettable artistry. Each performance is packed with energy, emotion and the joy of dance. Auditions are 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 in P103 (Experimental Theatre) at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts. Music

CLC Music department features several instrumental and choral groups. Some ensembles have open membership while others require an audition. Registration is required to participate.

• Wind Ensemble

Open to musicians of all backgrounds including CLC students, local high school music teachers and community members. Rehearsals are 7:30-9 p.m. Thursdays. Auditions are required. Contact Michael Flack at mflack@clcillinois.edu or (847) 543-2566.

• Jazz Ensemble I

This award-winning band features seasoned musicians, experienced teachers and professionals performing challenging jazz repertoire. The group presents four concerts annually. Rehearsals are on Monday nights and auditions are required. Contact Flack at mflack@clcillinois.edu or (847) 543-2566.

• Jazz Ensemble II

A Tuesday night ensemble composed of CLC students and community members, focusing on big band repertoire and ensemble development. Auditions are required. Contact Joe Ott at jott1@clcillinois.edu.

• Concert Band

Open to high school students, college students and community members with no audition required. Rehearsals are 7:30-9 p.m. on Wednesdays. Contact conductor Michael Madonia at mmadonia@clcillinois.edu.

• Jazz Combos

Students develop improvisation and ensemble skills while performing jazz standards, blues, ballads and contemporary repertoire. The group performs one on-campus concert per semester and occasional off-campus shows. Sections meet 2:30-4:15 p.m. on Monday. No audition required.

Choral Groups:

• Chamber Choir

A select ensemble performing advanced choral literature in various genres. Rehearsals are from 6-6:55 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday. For audition details contact Mitchell Lewis at mlewis20@clcillinois.edu.

• CLC Singers

Open to all students, this ensemble performs a diverse range of choral music both accompanied and a cappella. Rehearsals are 1-2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. No audition required. Contact Lewis at mlewis20@clcillinois.edu.

• Choir of Lake County

The largest choral ensemble at CLC performs everything from show tunes to classical music. Participants range from beginners to highly skilled singers. Rehearsals are 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. No audition required. Contact Lewis at mlewis20@clcillinois.edu.

• Gospel Choir

This ensemble performs gospel music, spirituals and contemporary selections at concerts throughout the year including at CLC’s annual Salute to Gospel Music in February. The group is diverse, ranging in age from teens to seniors. Rehearsals are 7-9 p.m. Mondays. No audition required.

Theatre

The CLC Theatre department presents multiple productions each year, with most auditions open to both students and community members. Notices are posted on campus and online. For more information, contact Craig Rich at crich@clcillinois.edu.

Upcoming auditions include:

• The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 18 and Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre.

Actors 16+ should prepare a 60-second monologue from a comedic or young audience theatre play. Be prepared to sing a few bars of acapella to an upbeat contemporary song. Please bring a resume or list of theatre experience and a photo of yourself (if you have one, a candid is fine) to the audition or email to Rich at crich@clcillinois.edu. This is a gender and color inclusive supported casting.

Rehearsals begin Monday, Aug. 24. Performances are Sept. 24-27. You must be available for all rehearsals from Sept. 14 through the performances. Rehearsals are 6:30-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, with the possibility of an occasional Sunday rehearsal depending on availability of actors and necessity. • Clue

It’s a dark and stormy night, and our cast of oddball characters has been invited to a very unusual dinner party. Each of the guests has an alias, the butler offers a variety of weapons and the host is, well, dead. So whodunit? Join the iconic oddballs known as Scarlet, Plum, White, Green, Peacock and Mustard as they race to find the murderer in Boddy Manor before the body count stacks up. Based on the cult classic film and the popular board game, Clue is a madcap comedy that will keep you guessing until the final twist.

Auditions will be 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 and 15 in the Studio Theatre. Auditions are open to both CLC students and community members.
