Bicyclist Critically Injured In Hit-And-Run Crash

The 60-year-old Grayslake man remains hospitalized following the incident early Thursday in Vernon Hills.

LAKE COUNTY, IL β€” A Grayslake man was critically injured when a car collided with a bicycle in Vernon Hills early Thursday.

The collision happened at about 4:20 a.m. in the area of Butterfield Road south of Golf Road. Authorities say a 60-year-old Grayslake man riding his bicycle south on southbound Butterfield Road was hit by a dark-colored sedan, which was also heading south on Butterfield at the time.

The car did not stop and continued south on Butterfield Road, according to a news release from the Vernon Hills Police Department.

The bicyclist was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with injuries that are considered life-threatening, police said. He remains in critical condition. Butterfield Road in the area of the collision was closed for several hours following the collision but has since been re-opened.

Police used an automated license plate reader camera and physical evidence left at the scene to track down the driver and vehicle involved in the collision, authorities said Thursday.
