Blinded By The Light: Driver Crashes Into Pole, Knocks Out Power To Neighborhood

A minivan driver says oncoming truck lights temporarily blinded him prior to the collision happening on Feb. 27 in Grayslake.

GRAYSLAKE, IL — A minivan driver in Grayslake told police he was temporarily blinded by the bright lights of an oncoming truck on Route 83 before veering off the road and crashing into a utility pole on the evening of February 27.

The impact knocked down the pole and caused a power outage in the surrounding area while ComEd crews worked to make emergency repairs, according to a Lake & McHenry Scanner report.

Grayslake Police and Grayslake Fire Protection District units responded to the crash, which also led to a brief shut down of northbound lanes near Shorewood Road. Nearby residents and a Grayslake North High School event was affected by the outage, but no further injuries were publicly reported, according to the report.
