The Grayslake Wrestling Club completed it's third, and most successful season with a good run in the State series this weekend. Nearly 50 kids began the journey when the club began practices in late October. By the time tournaments began in December, the group was ready. The team participated in local tournaments, traveled to Springfield, and took in B10 matches at Northwestern. Sixteen boys participated in the State series Regional tournament on February 24th.The club was lucky to have a strong group of boys ages four to 14. Several have now compiled a few years of experience and the progression showed this season. In addition to high school varsity and parent coaches, the club filled it's coaching ranks with recent high school graduates interested in giving back to their community. Thomas Halloran Jr and Dylan Hay joined Jerry Baumgartner on staff and the three drove significant improvements throughout the year.Regional participants (pictured) included; Liam Halloran, Sammy Newman, Matty Jens, Gabriel Garay, Matthew Nixon, Dane Schild, Avery Rogina, Jonas Sjodin, Ben Bauman, Joey Jens, Jared Long, Austin Walkington, Austin Connelly, Trell Firman, TJ Tasker, and Ethan Torres. Seven of the older boys qualified for 3/3 Sectionals; Nixon, Bauman, J. Jens, Firman, Tasker, and Torres along with Regional Champions J. Jens and Connelly.Learn more about Grayslake wrestling, including beginners summer camp in June: http://grayslakewrestlingclub.org/
