Bystander Saves Person Who Fell Through Ice In Antioch: Authorities

Both people were rescued from the ice by the Antioch Fire Department following the incident Tuesday afternoon.

ANTIOCH, IL β€” A Good Samaritan came to the rescue of a person who fell through the ice on Antioch Lake Tuesday afternoon.

The Antioch Fire Department was called to the lake at about 4:30 p.m. where they found two people lying flat on the ice, according to a news release from the fire department. Fire officials say they learned one person fell through the ice and was helped out of the water by a bystander.

Rescue personnel used an air boat to get both of the stranded individuals off the ice and safely to shore where they were evaluated, according to the news release. Fire officials say no one was injured in the incident.

Following the incident, fire officials are reminding residents to stay off the ice. Warmer weather and rain expected this week is going to make the ice very weak and "not safe to be on," according to the news release.

"Please stay of the ice until colder temperatures return," fire officials in Antioch said Tuesday.
