CLC Expands Debt-Free Program

The Promise Program will expand to include 19 in-demand career programs.

From the College of Lake County: Are you a recent high-school graduate? Interested in earning an associate degreeβ€”in a high-demand careerβ€”at little or no cost? Thanks to the College of Lake County’s Promise Program as well as scholarships, you can study a practical career and graduate with little or no debt in two years.

In the Promise Program, eligible students receive the following:

  • Free collegeβ€”The scholarship covers the difference between CLC tuition and fees and the student’s federal and state grant aid.
  • Extra moneyβ€”Students receive an additional $300 per semester to help with expenses.
  • Individual supportβ€”Stay on track with help from your own academic coach.
  • Academic planβ€”Create a career or transfer plan with an advisor/student development counselor so you graduate in two years.
  • Professional developmentβ€”Participate in career and leadership activities to build your skills.

Beginning Fall Semester 2019, eligibility criteria for the Promise Program will expand to include 19 in-demand career programs, from early childhood education to fire science technology to welding. For details, visit www.clcillinois.edu/promise or call (847)-543-2090.

Besides the Promise Program, scholarships are available in the Metallica Scholars Initiative. The nine-time, Grammy Award-winning band has made $100,000 in funding available through Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation, in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges. The monies are for students majoring in one of several in-demand trade areas. They include automation, robotics and mechatronics, automotive collision repair, automotive technology, computer aided design drafting technology and computerized numerical control programming. Other programs include electrical engineering technology, heating and air conditioning (HVAC) engineering technology, laser/photonics/optics, machine tool trades, mechanical engineering technology and welding.

Students are required to maintain a GPA of a 2.5 or higher while in the program. For more details, visit www.clcillinois.edu/metallicascholars.
